"I started blowing things up at the early age of 10. I
remember also trying to build a radio, plugging wires into a
wall outlet and blowing the fuse in the apartment in
Brooklyn, NY. My mother was not very happy. I then met a
couple of older guys up the street. They were both 17, I was
10. They started what would be considered a pirate FM
station, or Low Power Radio. I was so curious that they
asked me to work with them. I still have a copy of a
newspaper article from August 1969 about this radio station,
which includes one paragraph about a photo and me. Sacred
World Music is a spin off of two former programs, which
started back in Roanoke Virginia. I try to reach as diverse
a listener as possible without going all over the board, so
to speak."
"I am privileged to be a part of music that gets little
airplay. I never called any of my programs a “show,” since I
believe that the real show is in the performers music I am
privileged to air. Sacred World Music is a title I selected
based on my belief that
all music is sacred. All music holds a special place for so
many the world over. Thus the music is sacred (this is not a
religious use of the word), and can be from anywhere in the
world. I don’t go out of my way looking for only the most
unique performances by individuals or tribes in remote parts
of the world, but enjoy what becomes available. It’s true
that there are many artists yet to be heard and so much
great music yet to be revealed to the world, but it will
become available when the time is right. I believe you can’t
go looking to reveal what’s not ready to be seen or in our
case heard. When it’s ready to be heard I’ll be here to hold
it sacred and get it on the air." |
