Scott's Blog Notes:  Dónal Clancy grew up in the Ring Gaeltacht of Co. Waterford, a place steeped in traditional music and song. Being born into a musical family (his father Liam, being one of the legendary Clancy Brothers) he was exposed to Irish music from an early age. Dónal began his musical career at age 14 performing in venues around his native Waterford. Since then he has recorded two albums with his father Liam and cousin Robbie O'Connell and also has appeared on many other recordings by artists such as Kevin Crawford, Danú, Martin Murray, Mike & Mary Rafferty, Aoife Clancy, Cherish The Ladies, The Clancy Brothers, Eileen Ivers Band and Solas. Dan Ar Braz - Heritage des Celtes
Scott's Blog Notes:  "Heritage des Celtes" is a 1994 French release by Dan Ar Braz that is difficult to find in the US, so I am pleased to be able to provide you with an opportunity to hear this phenomenal album by the Guitar Master from Brittany (and approximately 75 other musicians!). 

"Heritage des Celtes" was the result of a Celtic Heritage Music Fetival.  To quote from the Sony Music Site page for Dan Ar Braz (see souce >>>) "on the 24th of July 1993, the man who’s since became his manager, Jacques Bernard, asked [Dan Ar Braz] to federate 75 musicians from all the Celtic countries for what turned out to be a legendary concert at the close of the 70th Festival de Cornouaille, Quimper, Brittany. Federate is the word in terms of human differences and styles of music.  Dan did “organize” the program throughout is musical heritage, pop music, folk music and traditional roots and it did please all generations that turned out to the gig. Two many musicians to mention. ... The demand was so big that, despite the size of the project and the unknown future of it, the manager managed to get everybody in the studio a few months later."

"Never before in Brittany had such an ambitious project been conceived. "Heritage des Celts", Dan's first album for Sony France, was produced by Donal Lunny, recorded by Brian Masterson at Windmill Lane studio in Dublin, which has hosted U2 and the Rolling Stones.
And this session produced 12 exceptional tracks. Released in autumn 1994, the album has beaten all expectations and has sold more than 300,000 copies in France alone."

Two of the tracks featured here this time include "Language of the Gaels" and "The Island" with vocals by the incomparable Karen Matheson [Capercaillie]).   "Heritage des Celtes" still plays in our Cool Celtic Coolstream, and I'll include more tracks from it here on future Fresh Cuts playlists.

Also new on the playlist this time is Donal Clancy (who was touring with Cathie Ryan last fall) from his new CD, and a listen back to a track from Judith Pintar's "Changes Like the Moon," now 20 years old, but it doesn't seem that long ago.
