Scott's Blog Notes: Just when
I think I've run out of surprises, I open up an envelope
and pull out 2 cds from an independent artist. I pop
one of the cds into the player while still doing something
else, but - WHACK - I am like a deer in the headlights,
captivated by the quality of the songs and sounds. I lose
track of whatever else I was trying to do, and it now
becomes important to spend time trying to figure out who
this performer is and why I haven't heard of him before
this. If you get a new John
Gorka or
Pierce Pettis CD, you know what to expect, so just to
make sure it was not just the element of surprise here, I
gave these the wife test (I gave them to my wife and could
not get them back from her car player for a long time).
So it was for me with $12.99 by
Dave
Potts, along with "One Night In The South," a 2003
release that will also find its way on these playlists in
the near future. Yes, these songs will captivate you
too, both with the quality of the music itself and the
stories interwoven within - and darn if I didn't own an
"Old Chevelle," two of them in fact (my first was a '70
307 coupe, then I found a '70 SS 396/350...) - however
Dave's romantically nostalgic song here transcends the
material silliness of the specs and such. So excuse
my rambling, and enjoy what may be a wonderful new
discovery for you also, the music of
Dave
Potts, along with more from previous features

Scotts Blog Notes: A few
months back, I featured a re-release of a 2002 album,
"Your Daughters & Your Sons," by
The
Duhks, and now we get a listen to their latest
release, Migrations. Less celtic in flavor than
"Your Daughters & Your Sons", Migrations is an eclectic
folk / folk-rock album with a range of flavors from
world-beat to bluegrass. More songs from it
will play here in the weeks to come. We also welcome
