Shawn Colvin
is back after five years with "These Four Walls," a
superb collection of new songs tending a little more
toward the Folk side rather than the Alt-rocker style,
though some songs lend themselves to both genres well.

compelling portrait of the singer/songwriter at work

for your entertainment, this brief diversion from the new
and the current to revisit both an album and a time in the
past where folk & folk-rock songs co-existed with what was
rocking and hip on the radio and in the venues. What
was common then blasts well beyond the boundaries of what
some bill as variety today. Enter here the hillbilly
rock sounds of the
The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, with pop rock sensibilities
in enough songs to earn them some top 40 hits, songs
nearly bluegrass or pure folk, and a bunch of fun songs in
between all of those genres. All of the original
The Ozark Mountain Daredevils albums have finally made it
to CD over the past few years, so get them if you want
them before they disappear. "Men From Earth" is one
of my favorite albumss with song favs like "Mountain
Range" and "It's How You Think," plus many more gems,
presented here along with some other Folk-Rock goodies,
past & present, for a bit of a change of pace. |
