F-Space - Ethan
Port - discusses the new F-Space
release Preliminary Impact Report (Mobilization Records;
http://www.f-space.com/). On the site this is
accurately described as "Six massive, surprisingly
accessible tracks of violently passionate, harmonic
noisescapes -- delivered with sonic intricacy and
homicidal tendencies. Camped in the vicinity of
EINSTURZENDE NEUBAUTEN , ACID MOTHER'S TEMPLE, SWANS and
GLENN BRANCA. The result conjures an apocalyptic, feral,
destructive trance state implying a catastrophic act of
nature, a march through the desert on the path to war, or
an offender's mental state during a crime of passion."

sounds he recorded in Roswell, NM did not have
extraterrestrial inspiration.

Revolutionary Snake Ensemble -
Ken Field (Birdsongs of the Mesozoic,
Sesame Street) leaves behind his Apollonian cerebral music
to revel in the funkiness of a New Orleans brass band. Ken
Field's Revolutionary Snake Ensemble is a New Orleans
brass band that plays Sun Ra ("Calling All Demons"), James
Brown ("Soul Power") as well as Scofield ("Some Nerve")
besides its own Big Easy- inspired originals. It is
interesting because this masterful sax man with a talent
for the edgy and progressive avant-garde music here
subsumes his particular side to incarnate a Mardi Gras
mood with rhythm music. Throughout there is a strong
second-line style in the tradition of Rebirth Brass Band
and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band. This is a party band with
a great horn section. The all-star Boston band includes
members of Either/Orchestra, Hot Tamale Brass Band, Binary
System, Clem Snide and more. In this interview Field
discusses RSE and other projects.

Brendan
Fitchew of Twisterbait
- Once upon a time there was a vast suburban trailer park,
where daytime soaps were the only form of education. This
resulted in unimaginable stupidity, but gave the
population a light to follow in the futile, self-oppressed
vacuum of their lives... Hear the rest of this story in this
interview with Brendan Fitchew turned Twisterbait
member. Connections with storm chasers and Death In
Vegas' Simon Hanson produces weird electro-rock.

Hans Fjellestad
talks about the nature of improvisation
in the context of the duo Donkey. At the time of this
interview, Donkey had just released the concept album Big
Sur. Hans illuminates the nature of the on-stage working
relationship with his partner Damon Holzborn and how the
location of and audience to a Donkey improvisational event
are affecting parameters to the music. Further exploration
of Hans Fjelletad's
improv prowess should be done by a thorough listening to
the engaging solo album 33 (Accretions). Focusing on Hans'
use of the keyboard, there is a style spectrum from
quiescent, reflective melodies, to playful patterns to
authoritative, mock-fascistic attacks with sampled voices
reminiscent of Laibach.

Evan Foster - Boss
Martians "The Set-Up" (MuSick Recordings) is a melodic
indie rock album that strays into Elvis Costello-like
territory on "Walk Away" and "He'll Be Around". So, this
is pretty accessible stuff. This may be garage punk, but
the garage has a new automatic door, is heated and freshly
painted with everything in ship-shape order. This group
has left its surf-rock roots behind for something like
polished Joe Jackson, witness the steppin' out on "Oh,
Angela". In this interview, Evan Foster
discusses this album, the Boss Martians orbit so far, his
solo record and connections to the Angry Young Man
movement.
